When guests ask us for one outdoor spot to build a day around, Rissers Beach is usually the answer. About twenty-five minutes from Bridgewater along the LaHave River, it’s one of the South Shore’s finest sand beaches — a long, gentle sweep of shoreline backed by grassy dunes and a saltmarsh boardwalk that’s perfect for a slow wander.
The water here is about as swimmable as the Atlantic gets on this coast, warming through July and August, and the wide beach gives everyone room to spread out even on a busy summer weekend. Bring a picnic, a book, and low expectations of your phone signal — this is a place for switching off. The boardwalk trail through the marsh is lovely for birdwatching and an easy stroll for all ages, rain or shine.
Come in summer for swimming and the fullest facilities, or in the shoulder seasons for long, near-empty walks with the surf to yourself — some of our guests prefer it that way. There’s a day-use fee in season, and it can fill up on hot afternoons, so an earlier start is wise. Pack a towel from your suite and make a half-day of it; it’s the South Shore at its most effortless.
