For an evening out with real South Shore character, Ironworks Distillery in Lunenburg is hard to beat. Set in a beautifully restored 1890s marine blacksmith’s shop just up from the harbour, it’s a distillery, tasting room and gathering spot rolled into one — and only about fifteen minutes from your suite in Bridgewater.
Everything here is made in small batches with local ingredients: rum, vodka, gin, and their well-loved apple brandy and fruit liqueurs, several using Annapolis Valley and South Shore fruit. Drop in for a tasting flight and a chat with the makers, pick up a bottle to enjoy back at your suite, or settle in on a warm evening as the Old Town winds down around you.
It’s an easy, low-key way to spend the early part of a night out, and it pairs naturally with dinner on the Lunenburg waterfront beforehand. Weekends and summer evenings are liveliest; hours are shorter in the off-season, so check before you head over. Since it’s a short drive from Bridgewater, plan your ride home accordingly — a designated driver or a cab means everyone gets to enjoy the tasting. A genuinely local nightcap, distilled a few streets from the sea.
